On December 14th, I went in to see Dr. Shaban for a regular check up. I told him that I had been having contractions that were wrapping around my back. He did an ultrasound and checked me and told me that I was not thinned or dialted at all. He was going out of town and basically put me in bed rest/vaginal bed rest, until he got back because he didn't want anything happening while he was gone. He reassured me that nothing would and again told me to take it easy and do nothing. She was so low so anything could make my water break.
I had hoped to be able to try VBAC but would not be able to do that if something went wrong or Dr. Shaban was gone. So I was doing my best to take it easy but its not so easy when you are chasing a 16 month old around.
The weekend went fine and on Sunday I started having contractions here and there. Nothing regular and nothing causing me to worry.
On Monday, we had a little family home evening and then decided that we'd listen to some Christmas music. Tanner loves to dance, so we were all dancing around and then Tanner wanted to dance with me. I honestly did not think anything and just picked him up like I was so used to doing and started dancing with him resting on my belly.
Bed time rolled around and I went to bed feeling great. Around 1am, I remember waking up and feeling really uncomfortable. I was pretty out of it and honestly just thought it was the typical pregnancy uncomfortable-ness. I fell back asleep and then remember waking up and falling back asleep frequently until around 5 when I finally realized that I was very uncomfortable and I was defiantly have contractions. I was able to fall back asleep for about an hour and woke up to feeling very wet.
It was about 6am and Brian's alarm was just about to go off so that he could get ready for school. I rolled over and said "Honey, I think my water just broke." He replied, "Are you serious?" To which I said, "Unless I peed myself, but I think I have more control over my bladder then that."
I got up and headed towards the bathroom so sit on the toilet but a bit and see what happened. It was just a trinkle here and there.. Like I was peeing but without the need to go pee.
I grabbed a towel and headed back to bed to lay down again. After a few minutes, I felt another large amount of water and from there on I knew that my water had broke. Brian called in to school and told them that we were going to be having a baby today and that he wouldnt be coming in. I called Nichole, to see if she would be able to come over in the next 45 mins to be with Tanner while we went to the hospital. With a very sleepy voice, she agreed.
I frantically started packing anything and everything that I thought I might need at the hospital. I was obviously not prepared for my water to break and had planned for my scheduled c-section. I then decided that if I was going to do this, it would have to be naturally and I might as well take my time. So I put on some makeup, curled my hair and tried to take deep breaths and relax.
Dr. Shaban was obviously unreachable as he was on a cruise, so I called Claire, his Nurse Practioner and she said Dr. Mead is there and is waiting for you. I called Dr. Mead and said, I think my water broke and he said "Awesome! come on over."
Once things were together and Nichole arrived, we took off to the hospital. I was nervous. I didn't know what to expect and I was scared because she was coming 2 weeks and 1 day early and I was praying so hard that she was healthy. I was worried about Tanner even though I knew he was in good hands. They pulled me back and I got into my gown and wheeled me into Labor and Delivery. Dr. Mead came in and tested the fluid to make sure that it was in fact my water. It was! So from then on it was sort of a blur, everything went so fast. Looking back, I wish I would have yelled STOP I just need a minute to process what is happening right now.
Brian called my parents and his parents and told them that my water had broke and we were about to have a baby! They were shocked. It was about 8am by this time and nurses were coming in and out of the room to start IV's, give me medicine, sign paperwork, shave my private area for preperation for another c-section, prep my belly etc. Again, looking back I wish I would have thought to say, " HOLD ON can I do this nautrally?" but things were so fast and I was a little out of my element with Dr. Shaban there.
Brian called my parents and his parents (6 am their time) and they were totally shocked and anxious.
My nurse team was fantastic! They were so calming and reassuring that everything was going to be fine. They explained everything that they were doing even though I had been through this before and were so nice! I finally asked to have just a minute alone and they agreed. They all stepped out and Brian gave me the greatest priesthood blessing ever. I felt calm and at peace.
The anesthesiologist came in and gave his whole run down of what would happen and shortly after at about 9am they were wheeling me into the OR.
At 9:33am, Camryn Danielle Hone was born. She came out crying and was beautiful, despite her crooked nose and head. Poor girl! No wonder she came early, she'd had enough of being squished in there! She was healthy and once they got her wrapped up and warm again, she was so calm. Brian was able to hold her while they stitched me up and then just like that it was over and they were wheeling us back to my L&D room for a couple hours before moving us to Postpartum.
Camryn was able to nurse right away and she did awesome. It was such a neat experience as I never got to experience that with Tanner.
She was such a champ in the hospital and was so calm. She basically ate and slept and was gaining weight and that was perfect for everyone.
On the 19th, our pediatrician came in to give her an exam and after what seemed like forever, she finally brought her back to us. She told us that Camryn had left hip dysplasia and was going to have a pediatric orthopedist come in to check her out. After his exam, he told us that she would need to be in a full body harness for 6 full weeks. Never to come out of it for anything. They came in and fitted her tiny little body and there the count down started. Apparently it is very common and they figure because of the lack of room that she had, she didn't move her left leg much and it cause it to not fully form.
Despite her harness, she was perfect and beautiful. We couldn't love her anymore and couldn't be more thrilled that she was in our family!
